RE: Regrets about the MR2 in the video
“Fun” is a relative term. You don’t have to have a manual transmission or rear wheel drive or huge power to have fun in a car. However, if you are in a car that is suited to the purpose you are using it for, a manual is more fun than an automatic. RWD is more fun that FWD. If you add more power to an already fun car…
I’m pretty sure I’m not going to walk in front a car so this story doesn’t worry me at all.
The world is very full of amazing cars that I don’t want.
For the most part I agree with you. However, my point is that I am being told in many of these replies that it can be my only car and do all of the things I want if I’ll just not be unreasonable.
I agree that the EV should be intended for routine daily driving. That has been one of the central themes to my posts here. It would be a great commuter car. I disagree with your claim that no one is saying the Tesla is the perfect “only” car an.. That is exactly what they are telling me. If I would just accept the…
That additional 25 minutes to fill up is only in very limited places. I probably extrapolate my life to other people’s lifestyle a little. It’s probably human nature, but I don’t think most people would want to live with the limitations if the cars were apples to apples. In other words, if you took the engine out of…
I would be very interested to hear how a horse and carriage would be superior to a gas car in our modern world for traveling on our roads.
Moral objection is probably the wrong term. I don’t like how average tax payers (and competitors) are helping buy ultra luxury cars for rich people. It’s one thing to “subsidize” a product that everyone uses. It’s another thing to subsidize a product that only the very rich can buy. The number of ways that this tech…
Again, I am absolutely planning to give the Model 3 a serious look when it is available. I have no gripe with EVs. My mother in law is in the market for a new car right and I’m advising her to check out a 70D. It would be perfect for her.
Interesting story. I’m in Iowa too, Iowa city area. I wonder more than with heat, how extreme cold will effect range. I drive 55 miles one way and the car would sit in the cold all day at work. Does the “200 mile” range become 110 on a 0 degree day?
I apologize for the snarkiness. Kids can complicate trips. My 5 year old did an 800 mile drive in 13-1/2 hours, but it does slow things down. I’m not worried about clots at this point. Breaks that often are a chore because I have places to go and things to see.
Let me repeat what you didn’t read. I talked about multicar families and I had multiple $20K+ cars before marriage. I know what a plane is. They are for vacations that have an ocean between here and there. It’s why I read car sites...I like cars AND driving them and road tripping. I told you what my commute was (55…
I agree. I said multiple times that it could be a great option for a multicar family. I said I may do it for my next car and I’m serious.
30-60 minute breaks every 200 miles? Might wana change your screen name. The smallest bladders go farther than that. Besides, flying you miss everything in between. The drive is the vacation. If driving is such an unbearable chore, why are you reading a car site?
It does take premium and that sucks... but my rotary will run on non.
No down time? We already discussed that 300 miles of “fuel” costs about 30 minutes if it’s at a supercharger.
There could be some maintenance gains, I’ll give you that. We’ll have to see how reliable motors and batteries become. However, over the initial 100,000 mile life of a car many of those items usually don‘t need much attention. If you figure a life longer than that you get to the point where the EV battery will be worn…
I do think it will grow. It will just have to grow for a long time to put a charger everywhere people would want one. And it would also have to get a lot faster. If I am driving all day to get somewhere I demand a 5-10 minute stop not 30 minutes every 200 miles. If you drive 800 miles in a day at 65 MPH with one 10…
