you do NOT want to know what a miller-meteor ambulance/hearse goes for today.

Yep.

Immigrant cars doing the work that American cars refuse to do.

Holy shit, I actually have one of those, a 1983 300TD wagon. Mine will probably never sell for $44k, but I’ll also probably never sell it. I am glad to see them getting this kind of love. :) these cars are crushingly endearing.

I agree. Not for me, but it definitely seems worth it. Somebody else complained about having to spend "another 3-4k" to fix it up. That's chicken feed for such an iconic car. Guaranteed attention getter. Will hold its value if not increase.

I have been around these cars most of my life. I completely agree that they need to be driven regularly. $16k is a fair starting price on a project. Could probably be had for less than that. My grandparents had one up until a few years ago. Dad sold the car for my grandma. Only had 9,700 miles on it when sold. We were

Lightning Bug. Can’t believe they’re not doing it.

An inexpensive, entry-level electric Bug would be perfect.

My guess, given the condition, is that this was driven a lot for a time and then either the owner died and it sat somewhere and now the estate or a relative has decided to get a dealer to liquidate it, or someone bought it in rough shape and bankruptcy eventually killed the dream of fixing it up.

Step 1: Peugeot 508.

You want funky design, unusual body, quick, reliable, “auto” trans, ~$15k and you have a short commute?

I hate people screw that up.  There should be court-marshalls for that.

Good call

Fixed. Thank you.

A car sitting in a garage makes 0 horsepower.

I love the coverage of all of these cars at the Lane museum. I happened upon it when visiting Nashville a few months ago and absolutely loved the place! It was by far the best automotive museum I’ve ever been to. Their collection of cars, bikes, and motorcycles is one of the most unique things you’ll ever see - and my
