Vibration. Inline 4s are already inherently unbalanced. V4s are even worse. Couple that with the extra cost and associated packaging complications (they work well longitudinally mounted, but not so well in a transverse package like you’d see on a FWD car), and there just isn’t a lot of incentive to do a V4. What are you talking about? Craigslist is full of cars with V4s. Do some research dude.

Even odder, the Dauphine was the base for a low volume electric car called the Heney Killowatt, made by Heney, a company better known for making hearse bodies, they were pretty expensive, they claimed 60 miles of range at 60mph. They only made 47 and a handful exist today.

Great stuff. They really are magical cars. I drove one once which must have had better brakes than this one because I didn’t feel quite the level of panic as you did. You could also get these cars with the world’s first hatchback introduced in 1938.

Czeckia has some seriously interesting car companies. If you ever get the chance to visit I highly recommend you visit the National Technical Museum in Prague. Here’s a photo dump of some porn from there:

I always check for first generation Honda Insights with manual transmissions and reasonably low km when I’m on autotrader or kijij.

I always longed the Lancia Fulvia Coupè...

And going down a little You Tube rabbit hole brings up this Charles Bowers animation from 1919. The car is much more rudimentary in this one.

Fascinating. I wonder if that is the first dealership commercial. The cars are really well done and I’m sure there are earlier animated cars. I know the first Felix the Cat cartoon has a car, but it doesn’t move, it’s just in the background. A pretty interesting one is this early stop motion film from 1908 called

The Czechs did it better
