I kept thinking that as well. I couldn’t quite tell if he was on something or if the years of hard drugs had taken its toll on him. Turns out, he was still using. Jittery, disjointed, at times not very coherent. . .there was definitely something off about him.

Just as a fan, I hope he comes back. He dominated again this Olympics. If he managed to do it again in 2020, the four straight times would probably stand as a ‘record’ for a very long time (it would probably still exist when the Olympics stops being a thing at some point in the distant future).

It’s pretty great. They allow the games to do the talking, instead of shoe-horning in their own features (and intros; NBC’s most egregious example being their Usain Bolt intro the other day which didn’t allow you to see the crowd reaction). Commentators are appropriate and level-headed.

Was there a controversy? I was watching it on CBC (perks of living near Canada), so all I saw was some good coverage before they went right into pole vaulting.
