Why charge a one-time fee of $5k when they can collect $1.2k into perpetuity? Me personally would tell Benz to get bent. I won’t even consider a Benz EQ-anything now, and I was seriously considering one for the misses. So basically MB and BMW are now no goes for an EV.
The problem with the two is the economies of scale, they need to get their volumes up to bring down costs from suppliers. It was a terrible time to launch new companies that make things, but I think Rivian will weather the storm fine.
Capacity is not the problem with the grid. It is the lack of investment in the transmission and distribution system.

This vehicle is gonna be a thorn in Rivian’s side. It is priced at the same level of an R1S, but has better amenities. Electronic folding seats is a big one that the R1S does not have.
Ah yes...low income people need an EV that needs charged at their apartment complex....not expanded and more reliable public transportation. $3B-$5B going towards expanding public transportation would go much further than a coupon for an EV, but I guess the point is to privatize those profits from the social costs.
