Without knowing living situation its hard to recommend an EV but if you can charge it I would get a Model 3. Gas isn’t getting any cheaper and SF is stupid expensive already. For a long term purchase you’ll be saving thousands with an EV.

Given the proliferation of SUVs & massive pickups, I think we are already well past the point of driving on roads that were not meant to handle the weight of the average car. I doubt the EV revolution will make that much of a difference.

“One pedal driving” is almost certainly to blame. They were probably so used to just lifting off to fully decelerate in stop and go traffic all day that when it came time to actually assertively stomp a brake pedal, that same foot went straight to the mat before he realized it wasn’t the real brake.
