Yes and no. He was Hot Rod in Armada. (Which I just realized I stated Energon as opposed to Armada). He then carried on into Energon, where Rodimus WAS a character. Energon also gave us Ironhide who was way more kidlike. Just confusing.
Trademark conversation aside, the idea of Rodimus has changed since the ‘86 movie as well. In the current IDW run, he’s never really been a Prime but a leader who still wants to be oddly unreliable and youthful.
