Agreed. It just feels lazy at this point. I was hoping they’d retcon the source of evil for this one. If the metaphor of America’s sins haunting us were to hold more weight, why aren’t these sources of evil on the locations of genocides and slaughters, rather than a space where people buried their dead?

I think the self-referential qualities (as tipified through Jeff Daniels) offered both comedic relief and strong character moments without being heavy-handed. Too often genre stories try to pretend they don't know what's genre-y about them or go for the broad comedy. Looper handled this well.
