This is the most depressing post. plus 1 and pour one out.

Have to say, Tyler, I never even knew the A-10 before I picked up your writing about it. That is one helluva machine. Good work, mate.

Unions don’t give a fuck about workers, they care about expanding their ranks as much as possible to generate more dues revenue. UAW is out for themselves and only themselves, even if it means nearly driving the company that supports them into the ground.

So unions shouldn’t exist? I don’t get the point other than we all get screwed.

They were protecting their interests (the workers), right? It was short-sighted, but you can’t fault them for that.

So it’s the fault of management. Glad we settled that.

If unions were the problem, instead of corporate greed, I think you’d know.

Who do you think fought for those laws and regulations? Corporations?

You can start here:

Dig into some mine worker union strikes, and others. Henry Ford shouldn’t be your go-to guy, as an anti-semite motherfucker. Learn some fucking history.

US labor laws are actually anti-union at the moment, which sucks. A single worker - negotiating on his/her own, is not going to get the same contract as someone working a union contract. That has good and bad sides, but I’d take the good - as labor and not capital - over the bad.

Sounds like you need a union.

When I wear them on my belt, yes.

Who said that?

Freeman was heinous all around. This is a well-written article, and I hope you can dig up more of the history there.

Keep enjoying your 40-hour work week and weekends on the backs of people who organized. Learn some fucking history.

That’s a separate management/worker issue than the one we’re discussing here. Don’t equate VW/union rep. with GM/Chrysler management fuck-ups.

Shitting on your workers isn’t good for business.

Unions are a big reason why workers don’t get fucked over as bad in the U.S. as they do in Mexico.

I don’t give a fuck if it’s just the UAW, as long as there’s union representation.
