Brother is a excellent example of how an art film can also be a B-movie. I love Aniki with all my heart, too. It's great.

I seen it, she ain't seen it. She won't see watch it, actually - knowing the subject matter, she refuses.
My girlfriend watched this interview with me, and she asked, "Have I seen any of his movies?"
I dunno. I guess it falls under things like American Idol. I personally don't think that counts as "reality" TV, although I'd argue that straight up competition shows like that are more "real" than anything that's marketed as "reality TV."
Lorenzo St. Dubois! Goddammit, Dick Shawn, why did you have to die, and why did you have to die in such a way that everyone thought it was part of the show?
"a trashy-yet-successful reality competition show"
I'm glad someone else found the inclusion of magical elements in Fresh Romance's "School Spirit" to be a minus. I get that the author was trying to create other dimensions to play with "inclusiveness," but I found the whole thing distracting from the core storyline.
I just want to congratulate Ignatiy on a review that balances the audience's need to understand what they might be paying to watch and his need to provide commentary. In a few cases in the past, the latter has won out, and I have taken him to task over it. But in the case of this review, I'm intrigued by his…
Looks like I'm not the only person who was wondering, "What ever happened to Millie?" Just watched the trailer, and I can't wait for this to hit DVD so I can rent it!
I would argue that "alternative rock" didn't die in 1996. I would say instead that 1996 was the year that alternative rock began its rather rapid transition into the new "adult contemporary." Suburban-friendly mom-rock groups like Matchbox 20 got their real start during this time and culminated into the bullshit…
I just remembered that while I wasn't that impressed with her performance in SPvTW (although I think it's more of how she was written, almost as dismissively as the Katayanagi Twins), I thought she was great in The Duff. The movie itself was awful, but I thought she did a great job.
It's because smart people intuitively know that the one-dimensional scale of judging entertainment ("good vs bad") is an incomplete paradigm. A better paradigm is two-dimensional, adding "boring vs entertaining."
Not to reduce the character to just a body type - but Doreen Green should be played by a curvier actress. I love me some Anna Kendrick (esp in her misogynist rapper mode), but dat ass is just too skinny. The tucked tail would look ridiculous on her - and not in the right way.
Seriously, the hype around Squirrel Girl's current run is well-deserved. Ryan North's take on the character is amazing and incredibly refreshing. Unless you prefer reading comics populated entirely by misanthropes (and you might, there are Batman fans like that, nothing wrong with it), I recommend picking up SG. …
Me, too! I know KM is a lesbian, but I just can't help myself - Jillian Holtzmann hits a lot of my sweet spots. Plus, she stole the fucking movie.
If you're looking for a lyrical change of pace, may I recommend my favorite country musicians, The Secret Sisters?
1 second of screen time counts as "showing off?"
Zhang Yimou's later career is a testament to what you can accomplish when you suck your government's revisionist dick like you're pulling chrome off a trailer hitch.
I had the exact same reaction. "Wow, Gilmore Girls is gettin' edgy. Next, Lorelai and Rory will be talking about when it's appropriate to take the back door." (cue Clark Gregg saying that there are some doors we never take)
