Mercy’s current alt, IMHO, is perfectly fine. What Mercy really needs is better healing abilities. Like something that can be used for groups instead of just one character at a time. It’s why Moira / Lucio are better choices if your aim is to “keep folks healed.”  Give people a reason to use Mercy in team play.
