But that shouldn’t be based on the original crime. That should be based on your time in prison, your remorse, what we call rehabilitation. That is the point of parole.

50 years is life in prison. Life with the possibility of parole means that maybe you can die free after serving your time. And that’s the sentence she received.

She’s been refused parole a bunch of times. But not for anything she has done since being imprisoned, just because of the gruesomeness of her original crime.

Yeah they don’t count people who are still in prison when they calculate recidivism rates. That’s not how this works.

Prisoners who are eligible for parole and meet the requirements to be paroled should be paroled. The gruesomeness of their original crime should be a factor in sentencing, and whether or not the possibility of parole is granted, but not a factor on whether parole should be granted.

I know what she did. I have seen pictures. I still think 50 years in a cell is enough.

I don’t excuse premeditated murder but when you get past 30 years in prison and the prisoner has rehabilitated I’m unclear on the reason to hold them behind bars.

Murder actually has the lowest recidivism rate of any crime. It’s highly unlikely that this woman is going to kill again, or even park illegally. So what is the point of keeping her in prison then? Pure punishment for a 50 year old crime?

I saw these folks back at OWS demonstrations, or at least, anarchists in black masks who didn’t mind starting violence and vandalism without provocation. It’s been a problem for a long long time.

Have you considered volunteering for a backstage gig? Community theaters are constantly in need of folks to help with props and sets, lighting, costumes, etc. Or just go to an audition!

I think the best way is getting out to do things you enjoy. I’m an actor so most of my friends are from theater. But I’ve also made friends playing Pokémon go, so you have lots of options.

If a woman came forward and said that’s what happened to her, I would believe her. Otherwise, there’s no reason to accuse him of anything non consensual, and doing so is pretty damn unethical.

I do understand. And definitely, some of them are. I also think decent people have flaws and are fallible. We’re only hearing her side because he doesn’t want to start a flame war and that’s reasonable.
