They employed tens of thousands in the city and kept the airport a major international hub - you could get direct flights anywhere in the US and even to most major European cities. All of the white bed sheets had two holes cut in them. The showers were golden. The steaks were way over cooked and slathered in ketchup.

I get the tonkotsu ramen package (package of miso flavor goo plus 2 packs of refrigerated ramen) made by Sun - which incidentally is the Hawaiian company which provides the ramen served in most American ramen joints. It’s $5 or $4 when on sale. Add some pan-fried pork belly slices, fish cake, nori, fermented bamboo…

I concur on the Mama Thai noodles. I prefer the Tom Yum, but the pork ramen is a close second, and neither runs anywhere near $8 where I live.

Still the proven best instant ramen:

The thing folks always miss about instant ramen is that it’s just a base. You’re supposed to add stuff. A few veggies tossed in can make a bowl of ramen MUCH better, and do not add appreciable amounts of time. Some snap peas, a bit of egg, and some bean sprouts and even Maruchan tastes good!

Oil packets are always the hallmark of quality dried noodles. My classic fancy noodle is Mama, but I might have to somehow generate friends to go in on this with me.
