Depending on where you live, not really. The smog over LA, for example, cleared up directly as a result of reducing automobile emissions.

While it is a rather major repair, replacing a Drive Unit in a Tesla is much much easier than replacing an engine in a regular car. A lot of early Model S’ had drive unit issues and had have them replaced; this is no longer an issue.
Totally understood. People at the start of the 20th century had the same standoffishness about those darn motor cars as well.
