I disagree. Queen was never just Freddie Mercury, and I don’t object to the rest of the band continuing after his tragic death. There was a lot of talent on that stage. Bands aren’t just the frontman. Genesis was still Genesis after Peter Gabriel left.

Politics Corner - Local Corner. The national right wing media has exploded with a story about Nebraska State Senator Ernie Chambers calling the American flag a rag on the floor of the state legislature. Ernie has been in the legislature since 1970, except for a 4 year pause because of a term limit bill that most

Maybe he specifically wanted to hook up with a married woman? Just guessing, here, but ‘I’m signing up for this website that is intended for adultery to cheat on my deceased wife’ makes a lot less sense.

Politics Corner - What Next? Edition. I’m a little worried about the timing of the Mueller investigation reportedly ending next week, so soon after the new AG was confirmed. But I would have also been really worried about it ending while acting AG, sasquatch enthusiast, hawker of the big dick toilet, and Mr. Clean on

As someone who came of age in the mid to late 90's, I am extremely offended that you referred to Emmanuelle in Space as ‘Space Jism’. It is a classic. It’s a triumph of soft core science fiction based erotica that did a vital service to pubescent boys in 1997 when you had to wait a whole damned minute to download just

He’s a really talented improviser who has done a lot of good stuff. But there are definitely worse ways to be remembered.

Politics Corner - Trump has lowered the bar so much this major scandal gets lost in the noise. The Fake News Enemy of the People Failing New York Times that NEVER asked the White House for a comment, NEVER EVER, had what should have been a blockbuster report. Trump wanted recent acting AG Whitaker to put Trump’s

Iannucci, Woods, and Laurie teaming up for an HBO scifi comedy? I’m all in on that. Laurie made some amazing comedy with Stephen Fry before he was Dr. House, Iannucci is Iannucci, and Woods? That guy fucks.

Not to kill my own joke by overexplaining it, but as the creation of a bard, The Iliad and The Odyssey were very literally ‘Homer’s dinner party fantasies’ long before they were ever books.

Great Britain understands that there are 12 inches in a foot, and 5280 feet in a mile, and that’s just common sense as God decreed it. They still pay much less as a nation for better outcomes for more people, because of universal health care.

Politics Corner - Who knew healthcare reform could be this complicated? EVERYONE! Except the idiot in chief and his base who believed he’d get better care for more people for less money without all that icky socialism, when he NEVER had a plan to make that happen!

Upvoted mostly because I wanted to remind everyone that The Expanse is legitimately fantastic, and after the long layoff from season 3, everybody should remind everybody else that it’s coming back on Amazon. It’s free if you buy/watch enough Amazon stuff to already have Prime, and it’s the best hard scifi I’ve ever

My favorite iteration of that joke was when they spent a crap ton of money to film a totally unnecessary thirty second scene on location in São Paulo where Marino and Heubel walk through the streets to buy churros.

I might. I do want to watch it, but I don’t get to the theater that often. Thanks for the recommendation.

Meh. I appreciate your input, and I would encourage frequent moviegoers to take your advice, but I get to the theater 3 or 4 times a year for movies I can’t wait to see. I have a big, beautiful TV and several streaming queues with things I want to watch but will never get around to.

I heard this movie was actually pretty good. I’ll watch it when it gets to streaming. And it didn’t bomb - it meaningfully outperformed the expectation that it would bomb. The problem is that $200 million budget. It’s going to need serious legs in the US and gangbuster overseas business to get a sequel.

Politics Corner - Creeping Fascism edition. This isn’t the biggest story today, but it matters. I’ve written about racial discrimination in the criminal justice system a few times here, but not as often as the subject deserves. And given our two tiered justice system, and the horror of mass incarceration, and

I welcome you here. As a former debater, I believe in my bones that one of the many problems we’re facing in this country is a breakdown in discourse. I'll gladly vouch for you as a non-troll.

A lot of the Never Trumpers have knuckled under. And as a former, devoted member of the neocon right, I say with horror that most of the right rejected empirical reality and waged a steadily escalating war on science for roughly the last 20 years.
