One plaintiff in the Delaware case, Mary Lindsay Flannery, was arrested in 2020 without explanation from the police or Hertz, over a car she rented that Hertz reported as stolen. Flannery says her underage daughter was left without a guardian as a result of the arrest; her case was ultimately dismissed.

I hope not. I’m one of the plaintiffs and my case will be viewed for settlement this Wednesday. Anything under 7 figures will not be accepted

No, but please do explain why you had such a thought.

I understand arresting the person initially, but then as soon as you get to the station, why is there no one there saying “yea Hertz is saying you stole the vehicle, do you have any documentation saying it’s not true?”. That is a couple of hours at most to make a decision, not 9 days. Just such a waste of time and

If I was on a civil jury, Hertz would be paying, no less, than a million per day spent in jail. Actually, I should triple that since the lawyers take most of that.

And once again I will say this will continue until executives are in jail for filing false police reports.  If the C suite faces actual personal consequences policy will change

I think that incompetent cops have a lot to do with this, too. They could probably confirm on the spot that the car is not stolen with a peek at the rental contract and a call to the Hertz office before chucking someone in the car and taking them to jail. And maybe approach vehicles reported stolen by Hertz with some

Hazah rich and powerful**

Hertz is effectively outsourcing their “asset management” to the police force.

Question? What are the other rental car companies doing? Are they causing arrests of renters? Fewer cases? What are they doing different if so? You know, investigative journalism - ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. “

I have done fleets - even *assisted* UHaul find a “stolen” vehicle (hint, it was in their carshare space). The reason why they could not find it? They were trying to run a service in a metro area via an intern. They did not have staff to put hands on a car. Without stable staffing in the “lots” you can’t keep track of

she spent nine days in jail on allegedly bogus charges of vehicle theft.”

Dont worry, when the suits start hitting hard, Hertz will file bankruptcy (again), some middle management will shake up, and “new Hertz” will accept zero liability.

I don’t care how odd the current times may be in the car market but, it’s a used car. It’s not an investment.

it will never pop a cap in the ass of value

Now there’s someone with realistic expectations for a car that’s old enough to vote.

Who is voting NP? This thing wasn’t worth $9900 15 years ago when it had 15k miles. I know the market is insane, but it isn’t THAT insane.

A 74,000 mi. early 2000s Ford Taurus is still an early 2000s Ford Taurus. There’s no way a reasonable person pays that much for this little. No Dice buddy.

I dare you to show me a single dealer that does not charge some hidden fee. Hell I have negotiated deals on new cars online and then gone in person to close and had dealers try to charge for crap that was not part of the negotiation. I walked away once over $1,500 for window tint that was added AFTER I agreed to the

Look, it took some arguing, and my manager didn’t like, it, but in the end I convinced him to knock the dirty tricks off the list. And I got him to throw in the bait and switch, and cut the doc fees in half!
