Man I wish Nolan would go as balls-out weird as Lynch. It might not add emotional depth, but it would at least feel a lot more personal.

I felt like everyone around me loved it, but I found it obnoxious.

Alien vs. Predator vs. Freddy vs. Jason vs. The Rock

behind Cap’s tiny-ass mouth is hundreds of teeth

I think it depends on the area. Middle School = 6 - 8 grade, Jr High is 7 - 9 grade. High school without a freshman class is fucking weird.

I wish these movies were a lot more interesting so we wouldn’t have to be inundated with them every other year. They play out like someone got really excited over Saw’s bullshit moralizing and forgot to put in anything memorable.

Get Out is a way better movie while the political background of The Purge movies mostly seems to be an excuse to give the series’ “What If?” scenario a reason to exist. This movie looks like it’s paying less lipservice at least.

not confirmed, hell there isn’t even a title announced, but it’s possible that My Bloody Valentine may have something out by the end of the month. They performed a new song live recently:

Alternate Universe 1986 saw Coil’s “The Anal Staircase” as its song of the summer

yeah Babadook might be one worth knowing a general premise at least beforehand, otherwise you’re going to get like 45 minutes of a really (purposefully) obnoxious kid before it becomes obvious as to what the movie’s trying to say about the mother’s situation.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

I didn’t know much about Arrival beforehand, but one thing that has been spoiled by any sort of “adult” Sci-Fi or whatever getting hounded to death by its fans thumping their chest over liking movies for adults or some shit. Happened with Inception too.

All I remember from the Matrix trailers was thinking it looked like Jonny Mnemonic. I certainly wouldn’t have guessed any plot-specifics from the trailers otherwise.

I think you’re associating criticism of the idea being presented as criticism of Armin itself. Armin himself may’ve gone away at the end of the episode, but the idea of using a character as a vehicle for a joke because it’s convenient rather than making logical sense is a characteristic that got much worse over time.

Sort of agree, though this series of EPs and whatnot, while flawed, are the most interesting that he’s been in a while. Year Zero is one of his best albums too.

oh it’s definitely better than Coldplay, but still has the slightly bored with itself feeling. Aside from the first two tracks, it largely sticks with the shuffley Radiohead pacing that they had more or less ran into the ground by that point.

In Rainbows is a fine album, but it lacks the more experimental edge that prevented their other albums from just being vaguely pretty. It’s like a better version of a more ambitious Coldplay, but still has that Coldplay smell of sounding like an inferior version of something better.

AMSP is good overall, but I find myself getting bored with it quickly even though Idon’t dislike any of the tracks. It needs a mid-album bump in energy.

Radiohead post-Kid A & Amnesiac just doesn’t have that have that ambitious drive that made their Bends->OKC->Kid A/Amnesiac run so damn fascinating. They’ve settled into a vague “experimental” mode since then that, while not bad, mostly just begs comparisons to their earlier material.

While I like the episode, there was a good write up about why it struck a nerve:
