I don't know if high or low narrative stakes were ever an issue for Archer. I mean, they have the occasional scene of earnest character growth, and the overarching plot and emotional ties inform the characters' actions, but they've mostly been doing weird dumb stuff for the sake of laughs.

Yeah, exactly! I grew up on Life with Louie and my reaction to the character over the course of these two seasons went from "that should be funny to see" to "he really got those mom mannerisms down pat" to straight up her becoming my favorite, most empathetic person in the whole series.
