Fun fact- a few weeks ago we hit the milestone of having vaccinated more people than had confirmed cases of covid! I know your point is that a lot of people probably had covid and weren’t diagnosed, but there are so many vaccinated people now.

Don’t paint the fireplace! Get veneer if the brick is ugly. Our fireplace was painted white brick and it was SO hideous. I got some beautiful stone veneer over it and it’s so nice now. More expensive than painting, but painted brick is tricky because you can’t undo it if it doesn’t look nice after.

I do not understand this child tax credit thing. Can I opt for the lump sum? Is this INSTEAD of the usual child tax credit or in addition to? I always owed taxes before having a kid, so I’m mildly concerned I will owe taxes and then get my own money back slowly over the year- when I’d rather just get my whole credit…

I got that too, but it was for the LAST round. Or at least, the amount they quoted was what we received last time. If this letter was correct, we’re not getting even close to the full 1400 each.

Yeah, I think focusing on a dollar amount is stupid. They need to make a formula that ties to living expenses or the highest paid employee thing. Or both. 15 is already too low in some places.

So far, every doctor we’ve asked has been like, “huh, why AREN’T we vaccinating parents of our patients?” and then they say they’re looking into it.

I think it’s a two fold problem- I see a lot of people saying there’s no point in getting the vaccine if it doesn’t stop transmission. It makes people not trust the vaccine.
OTOH, people DO need to keep wearing masks until community transmission is low, but I’m not sure that telling them the vaccine might not work is…

Maybe they should retire now while there are people to care for them so the next generation can get some jobs?
