That is not what has been done here. The C450 had its name changed to C43 AMG. This would be like if the S5 became the “RS almost 5" and the 435i became the “M almost 4". The C450 was nothing more than an S5 and 435i competitor.

The real reason is because Mercedes is ridiculous/greedy and they know they can easily trick sheep. This topic grinds my gears.

They’re telling buyers that Audi and BMW will give you a RS# and a M# car and you don’t have to worry about posers sitting next to you. Come to Mercedes and we will have watered down “AMG”

The previous AMG-sport models (of which this is merely a rebadging) featured a lot more AMG tuning than M-Performance models had M division input.

I have no issue with BMW or MB or Audi slapping as many badges as they want on the interior or specific areas of the exterior to a lower-level car. But when you start including it in the model name, you’ve lost me.

This isn’t an M2 competitor. It is a 435i and S5 competitor.
