The fact she participated in a felony that got someone killed is why she’s in prison and, hopefully, she stays there until she’s dead.

Because Gawker.
Not on Gawker, except old white people (or hell, all white people), cops, all law enforcement, any GOP member, anyone that is against raising the minimum wage, etc.
Whenever I see someone murdered, the first thing I do is pick up jewelry off the ground.
She dindunuffin.
She tried to “stop the violence”, but stayed for the entire event, punched one person, laughed during her confession and took a necklace from a dead body?
Sorry but if you commit a crime you are responsible for what happens. If I drive drunk and hit a car and THAT car because of me hits a pedestrian I am at fault.
Have you ever been the victim of a crime, or lost a family member to crime? It’s not so easy to be light on criminals when you’ve lost someone because of the actions of another. And no, I don’t believe that “society” makes some people bad.
More fine examples of Gawker Media Op-Ed/Cut and Paste Journalism.

Also... I know folks are living longer nowadays, but “young”? She’s 40.
What the hell are you even saying? Do you actually think someone convicted of felony murder should not be incarcerated? She wasn’t convicted of selling loose cigars, she was convicted of participating in an armed robbery which led to an innocent young woman’s murder.
Do you think her gender played a role in her sentence also? I’m pretty sure a man convicted of the same crime would be on death row instead of going before the parole board.
Why is defending convicted murderers/rapists because it fits neatly into a preferred brand of identity politics the ledge that Jezebel chooses to die on? why the f is “young black woman” in the title? her skin color plays no role in the article. are you just trying to get ps people randomly outraged by throwing random “BLACK!”s out there?
She wasn’t “penalized” for asserting her innocence. She got the sentence as a result of going to trial. Others were given a break because they agreed to save the state the cost of prosecution, defense, and otherwise conducting the trial. Not to mention putting all the victim’s family through the waiting game.
Did you just discover the concepts of felony murder and plea bargaining?
Might as well just link to The Guardian.
