The device of John speaking to Mary was not only undeserved and unnecessary, it was a hoary cliche.
Thank you. Reading some the comments here I was wondering if I was the only person who thought this was a soggy, bloated, melodramatic mess. There is only so much an actor, even a great actor, can do with a script like this.
I assumed from the beginning that he was the perpetrator, and that this would be the Big Reveal about his character.
I hope you mean a stiletto heel….
The pregnancy bothered me for a number of reasons, not least of which is that Watson (a doctor), and Mary (an intelligent woman of child-bearing age) couldn't figure out for themselves that she was pregnant; Sherlock had to do it!
I haven't read the story, but the idea that somebody was looking for something stashed in the bust suggested itself right away.
My first thought when she dove in front of the bullet was "Goddamit, she has a kid!"
I think they couldn't resist the cool visual of the slo-mo bullet speeding toward Sherlock's chest.
Well, that was horrible from start to finish.
I feel much the same way about Lindsay. She behaves abominably, but there's a true pathos about her. Her selfishness and obtuseness seem childlike; there's no sense of adult evil about her.
Good cop.
For the record, at the end of season 2, Lindsay has signed the divorce papers and is planning not to tell Paul about the pregnancy and to abort. Unfortunately, Becca tells Paul, and Paul, WITHOUT CONSULTING LINDSAY, breaks up with Amy and insists that they get back together.
I liked that he had some actual expertise.
Not just people standing on cliffs — people standing on cliffs *with the wind blowing their hair.* Also, people galloping horses along cliff-tops.
I don't "relate," but I do recognize some of my baser instincts.
I love Edgar and I'm very worried about him.
I don't think they discuss it, but that's because "white" is the unmarked category. If you don't mention race, people assume white.
Yes, the Fugitive Slave Act basically made it impossible for northern states to prevent free black citizens and people escaping slavery from being hauled off as "escaped slaves" without a hearing of any kind.
One of the best things I ever got out of therapy was the rush I got from firing a shitty therapist.
