From someone who drives his Jeeps all winter in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan without roof or doors: it’s not as bad as you’d think. Just don’t mount your phone to the dash; that’s been an expensive lesson.

Are those like the Audi ones, I wonder, that individually aim and dim in response to steering and oncoming traffic?

Interestingly, I read in another article that he did deposit some of the funds from his spree in other banks; my suspicious nature wonders if perhaps he didn’t manage to deposit some of that money into accounts that haven’t been identified, and is just laying low at his mom’s for a while until the eyes are off him,

It’s not great. Constant freeze-thaw and frequent overuse of salt, combined with a desperately underfunded maintenance program in a variety of jurisdictions, turn Michigan’s pavement into a pock-marked lunar surface. That said, I don’t know that it’s any worse, overall, than any other rust belt state.

That’s why I said “anything that looks like an actual ‘mountain’”. Say what you will about the Porcupines - or Marquette Mountain, or the wild variety of sandstone formations - they don’t look like mountains anymore, not when compared to the younger ranges like the Rockies or Himalayas.

Yes, I should have thought of that. Pittsburgh is famed worldwide for its varied weather and terrain, the depth and breadth of wilderness areas, rural townships, suburbs, and urban cores. Its record low of -22 and record high of 103 surrender just 33 degrees of temperature swing to Michigan, the mere difference

Our risk will be to everyone else’s immense benefit. While Michigan lacks a few geographical features - anything that looks like an actual “mountain”, for example - we have one of the broadest ranges of environmental conditions in the nation, from 112 degrees to -51 degrees, blizzards and tornados and ice storms and

4/10. Would still daily drive.

Porsche = Chevrolet = BMW, Porsh = Chevy = Bimmer.

Most large cities, and a lot of smaller ones, have this same standard, I think they just don’t publicize it. Baltimore made the switch some years ago, and that got a lot of press, but I don’t hear a lot about it otherwise.

Ah, very interesting. I mean, I still would have called a civilian first, but if you’re 85 and think the door will actually need extraction tools to open (and you live somewhere warm), I can certainly understand the decision better!

Yes, indeed he is. Which is 85 years of friends, family, and neighbors to call before you call the police.

If he’s going to die and there’s no one else to let him out, calling public safety is definitely the right move. If he’s not, and there is, then it isn’t.

Albuquerque is one of an increasing number of cities which restrict pursuit to “clear and immediate serious threat” or someone who has committed or is committing a violent felony, as these pursuits can do more harm than good; rather than pushing some idiot beyond the control of his vehicle, you get a description of

I’m sorry, did he say he got stuck in the car because the door was too heavy and then called the police? The police. To get you out of your multi-million-dollar car. I gotta say, man, maybe a call to a friend, family member, employee, or neighbor might have been more appropriate.

That’s very Jeep of you: sell the fanciest one. Good man!

Isn’t the point of watching shows to get out of your daily life and see something different and inspire you to be a better you?

I’d settle for more shows that aren’t set in New York or Los Angeles, or better yet, in any city at all. I understand the production and cultural reasons that our TV tends to be set in cities, and specific cities at that, but there are many wonderful stories to tell that don’t need to take place in urban environments.

Well, now that you mention it...

Yeah, and many of the bosses aren’t quite deep enough, so unless a previous owner has spaced them out, the bolts can’t stretch and tension properly. My new Brown Dog brackets hit more bosses, but also include the right spacers. One of those problems that manufacturers have a hard time noticing until their product has
