Honestly, the lightsaber fight and the podrace are such expertly-directed scenes, some of the best in Star Wars, it’s frustrating that they have to exist within a shitty movie otherwise. I really, really think the prequels had potential if they had simply given the scripts a few more passes before shooting.

It shocks me that this is even up for debate. Episode I is clearly the best prequel. Sand avoidance and robo-pneumonia don’t hold a candle to podracing or Darth Maul.

One of my favorite pieces of fight choreography ever is in that scene, where Obi-Wan blocks behind him, then immediately in front of him for both sides of Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber... perfect...

Although its not quite as iconic as the battle between Luke and Vader in Empire Strikes Back, this is easily the greatest lightsaber battle ever choreographed.
