If you teach kids history, it’s called “liberal indoctrination” because you have to point out that civil rights only applied to white men until 50 years ago. Discussion of discrimination against women and minorities = liberal indoctrination in some people’s minds.

It was the cognitive dissonance that finally got to me. Exactly. I think it has much more to do with critical thinking education which is much more prominent in college than high school. And I think it perfectly represents why, in some places, the GOP is doing everything they can to hinder critical (or really just “challenging”) thought in schools.

A large percentage of Americans don’t have the mental capacity to move past the idea that the government is taking their hard-earned money and giving it to lazy people.

Republicans have been true to the concept of fiscal conservatism in name only for as long as I’ve been alive. It’s propaganda that doesn’t have anything to do with their actual policies.

If your friend was a true fiscal conservative, he wouldn’t be a Republican.

But I think the term “conservative” came from being fiscally conservative all around, which would also include the military, right? I mean, of course now it’s out of control, but that’s part of the current problem. I could be wrong, though.

Great article! Speaks a little bit to my own political leanings as well. I was super conservative, registered Republican at 18, Rush Limbaugh show subscription, the whole package.
