I am not that literate in film and my opinion is not that informed, I'm just saying from my recollection it took a long time for ST to be regarded as satire (and as I say, if it's satire I don't think it's very good). It's not necessarily a question of taking it seriously; for many, I think the question was "is this the stupidest movie ever, or is something else stupider?" It's not an elegant movie in the least, and I don't know if satire works without being smooth.
