That’s a gross reversal of cause and effect, and a glib way of letting the Turks off the hook for electing and re-electing and re-electing an increasingly authoritarian and vindictive head of state. No one forced the Turks to elect Erdogan, just like no one forced Americans to elect Trump. They made that choice, they
