Etymologically, I guess that would mean "a group of likeminded people fucking themselves into the end-times". Which sounds about right.

Alternatively:
1945: There is segregation.
2016: There is not.
I wouldn't call this "whitewashing"- it's more that Merriam-Webster didn't want fascism to literally win yet again.
Forrest Whitaker has been stuck in roles lately out of which Laurence Fishburne would make absolute meat; I think Whitaker's at his best when he's terrifying.
Gee, you went full sprint on the genocide theme week, didn't you?
Also just saw Author: The JT Leroy Story, which is a contender for the most underrated doc in a year full of great ones (purportedly, for some- haven't seen all of them). Having little knowledge of the central controversy of the film, which involved a case of literary fraud in the early 2000s using a gender-fluid…
I saw SPL2, known in the states as Kill Zone 2, an entertaining, fairly bat-shit Hong Kong martial arts soap opera I tracked down for completion of my year-end list. Didn't think the action was as unimpeachable as some, but the prison riot is executed just right: the actual riot is treated as occasionally invasive…
And what's the point of a willfully antagonist comment like this? I've been bullied, as has literally anyone; I'm saying it's dramatically contrived. You'll be okay that I feel that way.
Hassenger, you are the definition of chummy.
As are The Lobster, The Witch, The Fits and Louder Than Bombs, actually! You all have a very stream-able list!
I'm rather surprised at the (retroactive) beating that film has taken from some people- as a whiz-bang soap opera, it was without a doubt one of the most nimble of this extensive TV series that's found a home in our theaters.
Strongly agreed- our society does not feature the equivalent of a race of people who used to eat other races, as far as I know.
Chiron didn't have any characteristics beyond repression, which is, to say the least, a misguided way to portray a homosexual character. And, say what you will about his characterization, but it's impossible to deny how contrived it is to have the bullies pressure the single person who's shown attraction to Chiron…
Okay, look, buddy, any critic has the right to walk out of a film that they don't like if they are not covering the film. D'Angelo exercises walk-out privileges more than most folks, but I actually find that rather refreshing; sometimes a shit film just doesn't need to eat up any more of your time.
ETA: And Face/Off is…
I always feel outsized appreciation for solid lists with a good mix of genres and wide release/limited, so kudos.

That's because they are sexual euphemisms! Where did you go to school, Prestidigititis?
Oh, thank God! We couldn't have a single celebrity obituary be published this year without turning it into a meme!
