This is very leading opinion copy from William which doesn’t accurately account for the reviews. They’re actually very polarized - either love or hate, not “mostly disappointed”.

It was a choice.
nvm
Yeah, I know that scene above and I know the scene with Bev and her dad. It’s a slight extrapolation of what is in the book, but it is not as graphic as the allegation. There is no kissing Bev’s belly, there is no gang rape. There is an accusation at the school that Beverly had a train run on her by a bunch of boys,…
Yeah, I’ve seen it. But there’s zero corroboration beyond those angry parents’ claims in the actual scripts.
There’s literally none of that in the two Fukunaga scripts that leaked. The final film is maybe 40-50% his structure.
Claremont may say that after the fact, but I remember the issues well. That sounds like one of the many ideas he had but never got to execute, and it’s not in the story. In the actual story, Spiral physically alters Betsy post-Siege Perlous- same way Claremont turned Tom Corsi and Sharon Friedlander into Native…
The Kwannon/Revanche retcon was so fucking stupid even 25 years ago. I remember reading it as a kid and being like ‘what the fuck?’
Yes, I’m well aware, I read them when they came out. But as he said himself in interviews, a huge part of it was Jim Lee’s idea and ‘audition’. Not long after, Claremont began writing to Lee’s plots and ideas under pressure from Bob Harras. Claremont intended it to be temporary.
Jim Lee did the switch and wrote it in himself, IIRC.
Exactly. There was no good answer to the Psylocke problem, and this at least rights something that had become tone-deaf years ago. (It had also been used - many times - to turn Psylocke into a two-dimensional sex kitten stereotype, until Rick Remender finally took a real interest in the character, something only…
That’s clearly not what Guadagnino is doing. He’s going for an East/West Germany Cold War aesthetic as opposed to trying to top Argento, which is not possible. I love it.
I worship the original film and Argento’s work but this looks fantastic. I love when you make these blanket statements with no basis in reality.
Very happy. But if he hasn’t finally married Beverly I call bullshit.
Once again, thrilling to hear io9 clutch its pearls over vulgar humor when you guys ran from the Alamo Drafthouse sexual harassment stories like the plague.
Gay fan who thought it was the right move then and now. It was Jenny Calendar all over again.
As an outside observer that’s how I feel. I’ve heard a lot of great things about King’s Batman run, and the apparent commitment to Bruce and Selina (much like re-cementing Lois and Clark post-Rebirth and adding their son - I grew up reading them happy together, and it’s important to me) was surprising and impressive.
Hating a new MST3k host: The boldest take of 1993
I vehemently disagree with it. And I think anyone who espouses it is too privileged or ignorant to understand the full ramifications for the larger world, Lynch included. But I also think Lynch is a man largely off in his own orbit who - unlike some similar parties - means well and was human and decent enough to at…
The weird ones were folks like Emily Nussbaum, whose work I generally like, going on about how Lynch was insufficiently publicly progressive for the times. Like, he’s not out on the ramparts of the Resistance all day and night, it’s not the end of the world. This is not news, it’s who he always was. And even if he…
