Which is why I’m much more interested in watching shows like Atlanta and Insecure—I’d much rather watch contemporary examples of black people just being people, living their lives, and going about their business than mire myself in slavery torture porn. Just like the author, I’ve seen enough of it in my lifetime.

Fuck me? I am black, fool. What blatant racism? Is that black author of the article a white supremacist for offering a similar opinion? You’re ridiculous.

Actually, I have never met anyone who minimized slavery in that way, and I have mostly older, white friends. Of course, nobody I know will admit to supporting Trump, so there’s that.

Inclined to agree. Just off the top of my head, a story about a black family living in the South during the Great Depression and then moving to the North, if well written, would be much more interesting. Like, what did they expect to find, and what did they actually find?

Cool that you get to be the arbiter of what stories should be getting made or if a movie has a purpose.

Are you serious? Did you know that people thought there were female Navy Seals after GI Jane? That people think the Scarlet Letter is a movie starring Demi Moore and the book was written after the movie. What fraction of people do you think were aware of the Titanic sinking in 1912 before the 1997 movie came out?

I don’t understand this line of thought. Haven’t you spoken to many many people who don’t want to admit slavery happened or who thought it wasn’t so bad. Like “these were just some fellas me and my family fed, clothed and housed in exchange for a few chores”.
