No, as I recall, Flynn saved Rapunzel from Gothel when he cut her hair off. Flynn gets to claim hero in the movie.

Wow, that sounds nothing like the story.
It's not interesting because it's not true in the first place, as two people pointed out above. Let's see, excluding the heroic prince and the very bad man, and correspondingly, the princess/lead and the very bad woman, we have:
Now that I think about it, when I was little we all watched The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, etc. They weren't just for us little girls, our parents and the boys also watched. The fact that they were about princesses didn't bother anyone.
As opposed to women who played either princesses in distress or a jealous old hags.
Don't forget every sidekick, animal, and comedic character ever.
Are you kidding? What is your familiarity with the Disney canon? Without even cheating by including Pixar films (which didn't have a single female lead till the Princess of Brave), I can give you a huge list of male characters of all stripes, lead and non-lead, villain and hero and comic relief and cuddly animal.
Completely agree.
I wanted "rapist-shit-hole"* to die. I didn't want him to get raped. But man, that was a bit of justice.
Also, not-Violet is a badass. She's fiercely loyal, even to some bitch she hardly knows. And yes, pretty heroic.
*My new name for the character, since I don't fucking know it.
The thing is, a movie with a girl protagonist is marketed with a gender neutral title and a male character added so it will appeal to boys, but a movie with a male character does not get modified for girls. A story about a boy is seen as a story for everyone, while a story about a girl is seen as a special interest…
First let me say that I love Tangled. It's a great movie. I understand why they made the changes they did, and if anything, it seems they made it gender-neutral.
OK -yes I've heard of The Snow Queen, it's one of my all-time favourite fairy tales! and when I watched the Frozen preview, that's the first thing I thought of - this sounds like it's based on The Snow Queen, except for all the cliched Disney antics on display.
If the robber's daughter isn't in it, I'm not seeing it. I loved that character when I read this story as a kid. She was fantastically fierce, threatening the heroine with her knife, then letting her go in defiance of her mother. I loved her. She was a badass.
I love how some people are using "slut shaming" as a barrier from criticism.
Slut-shaming is making someone feel bad for supposedly going outside traditional gender rules. Taylor Swift, for example, is slut-shammed for dating/sexing up a bunch of guys. Miley, however, is doing loads of oooh-so-shocking things just to get attention and be #1 in social media and the music charts.
Sinead O'Connor is not a member of the lucky sperm club. Her parents had an ugly divorce. She was abused by her mother. After shoplifting as a teen, she wound up in a Magdalene Asylum. Sinead got to where she is because of talent. That her talent is interwoven with mental illness makes her success even more striking.
The comments on this site about "slut-shaming" are so irritating. If someone runs naked through the streets or does whatever JUST to get attention and you don't like it and say something about it, then it's just an opinion. Calling it slut shaming is like calling everyone who talks about race a racist.
Did I miss something? Where are her pants?
Yeah I wasn't a fan of the "behaving like a prostitute" bit, but I'm still with Sinead overall. Making fun of mental illness is such an asshole thing to do.
So seriously, how do I set up a "no stories that contain Miley Cyrus" filter here? Is that an option?
