Y‘know... as a pedestrian, I find I’m a lot less likely to get run over if I cross BEHIND a car after it’s passed. It’s easily worth the 2-second delay.

A made the mistake years ago this was a car enthusiast page, but after years of people defending slow Camry’s in the left lane, waxing poetic about fuel efficiency as a reason to love a car, and ripping on anyone who prefers to drive a manual, I’m convinced I’m just here for the comments now.

Sorry, right on red is just smart. Try living where it isn’t allowed, watching nothing going past and just sitting for no reason. You just need to excercise common sense, which I do realise is hard for a lot of folk.

I have a different solution, end the mixing of pedestrians and cars. Have a separate time for pedestrians to cross. A time when all vehicle traffic has a red light, and during that time, right on red is prohibited. Install traffic cameras and issue fines based upon what is observed by the camera after review by a human…

Right on Red improves traffic flow in nearly all situations. and outside of downtowns with dense pedestrian populations, it’s not a problem. It shouldn’t be a blanket national, state, city, or even municipality rule. It should be intersection specific. “NO TURN ON RED”. Everywhere…

Transitioning is not always easy. especially if you do it in one car for a long time. There’s a lot of muscle memory to retrain.
