Chauvin probably knew safer ways to restrain a supposedly uncooperative suspect, with the ready assistance of three other cops. Unless he was just an idiot, which could certainly be a compelling defense.

I don't know if that's true or not, but Chauvin wasn't defending any endangered women. He was arresting some guy for suspicion of a minor crime. Chauvin was in zero danger and could have safely taken him in.

The cycle of abuse is worth learning about.

It won’t help her save face. Cops, cop supporters, all his cop friends, and all white supremacist society will drop her. Cops are often, sooo often domestic abusers and this guy had an exceptionally violent record. 

That's what I thought of first, but cops and habitually violent men are often domestic abusers. If so, she's entitled to those assets and to get away from him. 

If he was violent with her, and chances are he was, why put her down? If she wants to protect her image, she would pander to all the cops and cop supporters and stand by him. 

That's what I initially assumed, but a brutal thug like this is probably no different at home. Maybe the general condemnation broke through the cycle of violence and made her realize that it's not ok.
