It really sounds like it’s meant to skewer a VERY specific sort of liberal. No, such people aren’t actually known to hunt people, or anything else, for sport, but I supposed it was meant to take their self-righteousness to hopefully comical extremes. I admit this doesn't.deserve this much thought.
