You missed a reference: After the Room 237 line, Constantine says, “Allons y, Alonzo!”
Was it mentioned in the movie it was his first day? I can’t recall.
People are telling you “don’t read it” etc., but when this asshole’s entire livelihood relies on people paying attention to him and watching his videos, ignoring him is actually beneficial. The less coverage he gets, the fewer eyes are on him, and the less money he’s going to make.
How about you guys stop talking about this asshole, sick and tired of hearing about him...
It’s pretty well-established at this point that it’s a weave. You’d better bring a boatload of expertise if you’re going to try to disprove that narrative.
I can’t find a photo of it right now (of course), but if you watch the Marx Brothers movie “Animal Crackers,” you can see they’re reading obviously sopping wet newspapers. I think it’s great that we as the audience acknowledge and talk about it, but I still don’t understand how the developers were supposed to weave in a history lesson into a side scrolling action game. I suppose they could have front-loaded the experience with a page full of text explaining the racism behind the visuals…
Should everything ever that references something old have a disclaimer that says ‘in this era people were racist/sexist/etc’?
Not saying this to dispute the point of the article, but I’d wager the vast majority of people who like this animation have no idea it had racist associations. To them it’s a beautiful game with an old art style.
