This is sad to hear. I still think Meliora is a masterwork, but it's now sad to think that it was essentially a "product" of hired guns, the producer, and collaborators who've since been discarded. It was nice to think of this as an actual band. This heavily colors my view and interest in their work going forward.

Judging by the amateur clips of the show on YouTube, they sounded great and Bun E was really driving things. It sounded to me like he was pushing things, in fact, and maybe the other guys were used to a few fewer BPM than what was being played. But I liked the energy of that - reminded me of how much of a real band

It's a terrific song. I think a lot of the issue with its legacy is that the band was heading into a commercial no-mans-land at that point. Petersson was gone, their sound was in flux, radio scene was changing, who were these guys anyway? It feels like it came during more of a valley than a peak of their prominence.

From an outside fan's standpoint, I hear you. Bun E still plays and sounds terrific, and it feels like a shame for there to be bad blood after so much time. The guys are alive, healthy, and would still sound stellar together.

Love it!

Great observations, and agreed. They were sort of mainstream by default, yet never the best fit for it.

I think they were really let down by a lot of the production on their studio albums. Terrific musicians, terrific songs, but hit and miss with the recorded sound of their albums. Seems like no one behind the boards could decide what the band was supposed to sound like. Too often the albums sounded thin and polite.

Agreed on how great that set was. I was particularly knocked out by "Gonna Raise Hell". Too bad all the footage of that show has been pulled from YouTube.

How little one of them actually knows about the band, from what I can tell.

Ending a rant like that with "Grow up" shows a fairly stunning lack of self-awareness.
