Yeah. I had an awful, traumatic birth with my daughter. For about a year afterward I would get the shakes just thinking about it. And I still have nerve damage. But you know what would have been a much deeper and more lasting “wound”? If she had DIED.

Thank you. Also, what people seem to forget, is that something could happen to the baby that no midwife can fix. As an anecdote, both of my kids were born with pretty much no issue. I would have been a great candidate for home birth, (though I got a little pitocin because I was over it) but I could have been at home.

I also get the dissatisfaction and distrust, but this is negligent and irresponsible. I’m sorry for her loss, but a reasonable person would have sought some legitimate help when labour lasted this long (at 42 weeks, which already significantly raises the risk of stillbirth) or when they hadn’t urinated for more than

Some births are deadly, no matter HOW much “primal instinct” you have. I watched a live-stream of a shelter/feral cat attempting to give birth, and after the second hour of struggling and pushing, the person running the show said, “nope, something’s wrong, taking her to the vet.” Turns out that the first of her 4

I get mistrust of the US health care system. I really do. But it wasn’t THAT long ago that childbirth was a leading cause of death for women. Forgive the expression, but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.

WTF is the point of living in modern times if a person doesn’t avail herself of some of its luxuries, like a freaking pre-natal appointment to a midwife or something? Yet she will chatter on FB about the “primal instinct” that takes over. Guess what? Birthing can be pretty deadly, just look at history. But no, the

The fact that the two male producers you choose to compare Antonoff to are Phil Spector and Dr. Luke seems pretty sleazy and tendentious. If you were looking for names of powerful male producers who have worked with female artists, there are a number you could have picked — Timbaland, Rick Rubin, Babyface — but you

The definition of “close” is a race where a a small number of voters can change the outcome so, yeah, she might have. Shes only the most famous person on the planet AND shes from 3rd Ward.

Cool. Maybe next time try tweeting support BEFORE the voting starts.

Hey folks! I just wanted to point out that the fine people at Does the Dog Die? have a comprehensive list of flags regarding various triggers and semi-spoilers for all sorts of red flags that people might care about. If you have specific things that might make a movie a no-go, I’d recommend checking them out.

This happened to me with Silver Linings Playbook. The trailers made it look like a charming romantic dramedy perfect for a 3rd-ish date with my new beau. Instead, my date (now husband) who grew up outside Philly with a somewhat abusive dad, a doormat mom, and a diagnosis of bipolar I, which he was managing through

This is an excellent point about multiple triggers and the impact of narratives on viewers. Thank you, and all the best to your family.

The San Francisco Ballet goes out to elementary schools and does a presentation and then offers scholarships to attend. My godson (mixed) received a scholarship and got to study at the San Francisco School of Ballet for two years. He didn’t end up continuing, but it was an amazing experience. The pool is not that

Not to be totally crass, but you can see his body through the garage window. Does that not count as “seeing the death”?

I had a weird personal experience with this. While out to dinner with a pair of longtime friends one mentioned that we never get to see non-kids movies and she’d been wanting to see A Star is Born. I have seen every version of it made and neither hate nor love it so when our third enthusiastically agreed, off we went.

True story: because of various life experiences I’ve had with family members, I don’t like to consume media that involves depictions/discussions of suicide. For instance, I love musicals, but I’m not going to see Dear Evan Hansen, because I know suicide is a big part of the storyline.

Small point, but the 1954 version is also a remake of the original, which was made in 1937.

Now dad’s of all skin colours can fork out money for shoes and physiotherapy.

I never realized they were supposed to blend in- I think because my cartoon picture of ballet shoes is that they are pink, or meant to match the tutu. But now that I’ve learned something new, I’m glad they are finally beginning to address this.
