Ooo boy, I haven’t seen all of them but I have seen The Shape of Water. I can see it winning if it came out in like...2003 but damn. I’m surprised it won. They’re playing it safe. It was a lovely movie but sort of reminded me of poor man’s Amelie or Matilda more than...something that...sticks with you or feels new and

Agreed! Fixed, and thank you for the catch.

“Dunkirk” getting snubbed both at Best Director and Best Picture made my night. First because it’s shitty. Second, because the tears of Nolanites are always reinvogarating...

I’m happy and satisfied! It’s either “The Shape of Water”, for being great storytelling and well executed, or “Get Out”, for being innovative and bold. Since it was “TSoW”, I can accept it with the rationalization that “Get Out” is the first try of Jordan Peele, and both him and Daniel Kaluuya are young and have a

What helped Kobe is that it happened years ago and people have short memories. I don’t even think I realized he was nominated until a few weeks ago. He totally flew under the radar. We have along way to go.

The Kobe thing is infuriating because sports radio hosts named her and said she deserved to lose her anonymity because she accused someone of rape. It’s also disgusting that Kobe was given a hero’s exit when he retired and everyone pretty much forgot about the rape case. Everyone also overlooks the fact that Kobe is a

Just stay away from “they’re jealous of you” and that line of thing. It’s not true (or very rarely true) and doesn’t help matters.

You can’t control the behavior of others, and some people aren’t as cool as she is. That’s why they act out. And the best way to beat that it’s to name it, claim it, and frame it.

The good news is, it won’t last forever.

I’m sure she’s not changing diapers but who cares. They’re rich. Rich people have always had other people raise their children.

For me, the little nugget of judgment I feel towards all of them for anything child-related is rooted in my own bitter jealousy. It’s the bitter jealousy of “you didn’t have to change your life AT ALL.”

For me, it was 9 weeks of training (6 days a week, 8-9 hours a day). About half is language training, the other half is skills training.

There are other things that go into building a school other than construction. One of my friends was in the PeaceCorps and helped build a school (I cant remember where) and she pretty much just painted interior and exterior walls. She also helped bring in the furniture - desks/tables/shelving etc.

My thing too, is that Tiffany has been telling this story every where.

“I’m confused as to when he started thinking he was the authority on anything.”

Yeah the ‘Africa’ thing is dumb, but tbf whenevet I told people in the US that I volunteered in Zambia I usually had to qualify it with the continent.

Former Peace Corps volunteer here. If your friend acted like she literally built everything herself then yeah, she sucks. If you hated on her for setting up schools (probably using local laborers) then you’re the shitty person.

i agree with this. thankfully some of the survivors seem to notice this themselves. the kids are alright

I’m not seeing that attitude from liberals, not on any kind of scale. Definitely seeing that with conservatives, who don’t give a shit about anybody who’s not white.

I’m less concerned with these white and Hispanic kids (I don’t know what race any of them identify as), and more concerned with how white “liberal” adults are falling all over themselves to support these kids while remaining sheepishly silent when black kids fight for liberation. The white liberal adults are the ones
