I can answer that, as my mother had one of these, with an autotragic no less. It will get 45mpg+ even when being driven like you stole it - and you have to drive it that way, because the powerplant is three chubby hamsters under the hood. It will go 80mph all day long on the highway. Bring noise-cancelling headphones,…

Legislating inventions gave us cleaner air. But muh burnouts!
So because we’re fucked we shouldn’t attempt to minimize harm?
Sorry, I could have been more clear. While I find the suggestion of having cycling routes “elevated or underground or through buildings” to be silly, I’m not against proper bicycle infrastructure. It’s the last paragraph that’s the really bad part.
Holy shit, that’s a bad take. Please don’t make me list the reasons why; just renounce it and hope you can be forgiven someday.
Been in the bike business since the mid 90s. Raced, commuted. You name it.

“This motor swap will be cheap. I can use mostly junkyard parts”
It better should. But I don’t think it matters. I think they will build five of these and go bankrupt. By the looks if it, it’s a gazebo on wheels, not a camper van.
In the past I’ve put more miles on my normal bike (2,000) as opposed to my car (1,500). However now I have a job where I have to show up and be presentable, and there aren’t any showers. And it’s 10 miles away.
^ Thiiiiis. If an e-bike gets more people on two wheels, I’m for it.
Not if people don't use it
I live in an area with steeeeeep hills. Having an E bike is great because I can get some exercise without killing myself trying to power up a 15% grade. In spring, summer, and fall I ride my bike to work and get my blood pumping before starting my day without having to arrive at work a sweaty, drippy, mangled mess…
I think E bikes have been a thing people desired for a long time but they were always very expensive. The cost is coming down now and the prices of cars keep going up and here we are.
THIS. When it was introduced it had a comically small DLO and was just another in the long line a cartoonish GM designs decisions: Saving defeat from the jaws of victory.
