a fuckton of $500 volvos.

If I had to take a quick guess, I’d say the bottleneck is the CVT. My 98 Volvo sedan is rated for 3300lbs and pretty similar in power.

ive seen a few, and each time ive just scratched my head as to what drove that individual to make that decision.

I’m half Japanese myself, and I grew up there, so you can cool it.

Part of the fun is having the only one.

If I were to add to the above, one thing I forgot to mention is that 6/7/8/9/10sp road and 6/7/8/9sp mtb deraileurs from shimano share the same pull ratio. So in a pinch you can swap deraileur a or shifters pretty easy. Like my tt bike is actually running an 8sp shifter with a 10sp rear derailleur, but 9sp pulley

if you want an end of the world bike, I would actually recommend going with 8-speed.

Yeah, I built this thing a while ago to carry a keg to the top of a trail on turkey day. theres a handful of photos and videos of it floating around out there... it is very much a one-of-a-kind bike.... I haven’t seen anybody else dumb enough to build anything like it. which was magically kinda convenient, because it

small, light, home made EV... something that runs on a multiple of 12v (probably 48v), easy to find or make batteries for... it’ll last longer than gas... wont wear down tires as fast. the smaller it is, the less solar I’d need to keep it juiced up.

Maybe a forward facing light that can signal people driving stupid slow to pull over and let the convoy behind them pass.

Desert temp swings from day to night can easily be 30~40F difference, to where it can be pleasant or even slightly chilly at night.

Have you not heard of 24hrs of lemons? Just about any asshole with a drivers license, a little bit of expendable income, and a $500 piece of shit car can be a race car driver. A good race car driver?!? Absolutely not. But the driver of a race car? Sure.

“on a scale from 1 to 10, how eager are you to pay for a subscription to the car you already own? with 1 being eager, and 10 being extremely eager...”

Gonna go with the Huyndai ioniq 5…. When I saw early images, I figured it would go the way of most concept cars… you know, release some cool images, and launch a turd…. But nope. They launched something very unique looking and unlike anything else out there, which at the time was very unlike them, due to their history

And if we’re lucky, maybe they’ll even put in a line that goes from salinas to paso Robles by 2099.

Part of that is just because California requires that 10/150 warranty on batteries…. I’d be curious as to how they perform beyond that tho.

Sure, And in turn burning gasoline, which I would have to go outa my way to refill.

I think your last statement is right on... while most companies would adjust their offering to consumer demand (the consumer is requesting!?!? ok how can we accommodate?), Toyota is a legacy Japanese company... their approach is “we will produce the product, it will be high quality, we will tell the consumer they want

the counter argument is that a PHEV would be discharged far more often in comparison to a full EV. a PHEV battery would be discharged 2~3x as often as a BEV... that’s a lot of stress on the battery.

I think part of that is just evolution... hyundai was at least a decade behind in design for a really damn long time, without their own specific design language... like someitmes it looked like ford, sometimes it looked like MB, sometimes it was like a knockoff toyota... it seems like they’re finally turning a corner
