Gonna go with the Huyndai ioniq 5…. When I saw early images, I figured it would go the way of most concept cars… you know, release some cool images, and launch a turd…. But nope. They launched something very unique looking and unlike anything else out there, which at the time was very unlike them, due to their history…

Part of that is just because California requires that 10/150 warranty on batteries…. I’d be curious as to how they perform beyond that tho.

I think your last statement is right on... while most companies would adjust their offering to consumer demand (the consumer is requesting!?!? ok how can we accommodate?), Toyota is a legacy Japanese company... their approach is “we will produce the product, it will be high quality, we will tell the consumer they want…

the counter argument is that a PHEV would be discharged far more often in comparison to a full EV. a PHEV battery would be discharged 2~3x as often as a BEV... that’s a lot of stress on the battery.

I think part of that is just evolution... hyundai was at least a decade behind in design for a really damn long time, without their own specific design language... like someitmes it looked like ford, sometimes it looked like MB, sometimes it was like a knockoff toyota... it seems like they’re finally turning a corner…

gotta say.... I really appreciate how hyundai and kia really take opposite design languages and deliver some really cool stuff off the same platform to cover the likes of different consumers... in the past they were so similar, that it was like why bother, but now they cover a pretty broad range. I appreciate them…

Some states it’s actually good to carry auto insurance even you’re not in a car. In cali my auto policy covers “any collision involving an automobile.” As a cyclist, I drive old cars which are super cheap to insure, and I carry the maximum coverage on my uninsured/underinsured coverage…. It’s saved my life twice.

My 98 Volvo has a dash squeak when I hit bumps. I just gotta get under there and tighten a couple bolts probably…. Or maybe just drop some silicon adhesive down there. I don’t know, but also i really don’t care that much.

Inflicted isn’t necessarily the right word. I personally like having infrastructure, and understand that it comes at a cost. In a perfect world, the infrastructure would be free and never need repair, but reality just ain’t that.
