if you plug in your destination to your phone, google maps will preemptively download all map data necessary to get there even offline.... furthermore you can also set a maps to download a certain area and keep it on your phone to access whenever.

according to the census bureau, the average commute is 27 miles one-way.... which seems kinda high.... that being said, alot of independent studies are saying between 16 to 20 miles (one way) in the US...
