'But everyone else was doing it! ' is pretty much the worst argument ever, for anything.

I remember there was an article in the Guardian that called the movie unnecessary. It then went on to complain that the movie failed to recognize the sheer awesomeness of Europe for getting rid of slavery before the US did. I mean, sure. The British Empire killed millions of people, but they banned slavery early!

I agree that what the Confederate cause was pretty evil, but I don't think I'd compare them to Nazis. The Confederate army didn't commit a lot of war crimes. At least, no more than the Union did. They aren't comparable to the SS or even WWII-era Wehrmacht.
