Ha, I've never gotten a minivan ad!
Ha, I've never gotten a minivan ad!
That's an interesting perspective, and I'd be interested to read more about that scholars perspective if you have links!
Ha. That makes me wonder what kind of targeted ads my husband gets. He had the mentality of a 70 year old man even back when we were in college.
When I got engaged, way back in 2008, I updated my Facebook status as such (with some hesitation). I got targeted bridal weight loss ads in Facebook for the next year or so. Jokes on them! I was about the same weight when I got engaged to that when I got married.
Capitalism isn't exactly kind to women, now or historically, and it's not like western cultures are free of paternalism, worship of authority, or beliefs that women are ornamental. I guess we aren't really disagreeing?
Did I say that?
Communism was pretty horrific in China, but the one of the few good things it did was drastically improve the conditions for women. Things have not exactly gotten better for women (with respect to men) since reform and opening.
I've been saying this for years, since beards came into fashion.
This is what happens when people focus on un-retouched photos as "real" abd retouched photos as "fake." No photograph can accurately represent reality, and we should think about ALL of them critically. Seeing what goes into the retouching process is helpful, but not because unretouhed photographs are anymore…
Oh man, the "begin an uncomfortable conversation in the car so you have nowhere to go and are afraid to react" thing. I'm 33 and my mom STILL pulls this.
Ugh, I feel for you!
I think no DJ is smart. Having someone who needs to run over and see what the hell is wrong with the computer is the worst possible scenario. I guess you need a DJ if you want to announce lots of dances and activities, maybe, but my wedding was supposed to have none of that.
Ugh, just use a computer, people!
Mine was somebody who was PAID to be there- the DJ. My husband and I wanted to DIY it with an ipod or something, but my mom insisted there had to be a GUY. The guy she found who was in our budget went by the nickname of "Big Daddy". We got married in rural New Hampshire, so there were not so many options. I give…
ARE WE LONG LOST TWINS? I also have big boobs and a low sense of self-worth. :///
I feel bad for her now, she had some major issues herself that I don't envy, looking back. I'm fine now, though, but thank you! :)
I haven't talked to her in a few years, but in retrospect I feel bad for her, because despite being a very smart and cool person in other ways, she was completly hung up on the idea that attention from men was the be all and end all.
I was one of those people. Because I had low self-esteem and many other issues, I attracted a lot of wierd dudes. Believe me, it's not a nice position to be in.
The Olsen twins had similar stuff in their super expensive fashion line. And the fashion world seemed to accept them pretty easily. Wonder why....
My entire facebook feed for the last hour or 2 has been upper middle class people procliaming "OH MY GOD I KNOW DONT YOU KNOW WHEN I GO TO CHIPOLTE ITS ONLY 600 CALORIES AND FAT PEOPLE ARE GROSS UGH". It's fucking annyoing.
