I think its more to do with the fact that fans hated the last few Activision Crash games, and want something more akin to Naughty Dog’s originals. So they are just using the want of consumers to make a quick buck by using their ownership of the IP to their advantage instead of letting out yet another disappointment.

I think thats something Nintendo has taken to heart with their approach to consoles. Its pretty much always Mario and Zelda with the odd 3rd party titles. Unfortunately that trend doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon.
