The real question here is how did we get here? The A-10 is an old aircraft and there has been no serious planning/competitions/procurements for a suitable replacement. That's what Congress should be demanding of the Air Force generals. Sadly, Congressional attention span is about 2 seconds.

That's what you have overhead electronic warfare aircraft high overhead for. To try to pack all these capabilities into an A-10-like airframe would make it too large, too expensive, and heavier.

Once a line is shut down, it wouldn't be brought back up unless an extremely large order came in. Once a line is down, personnel are either let go or moved to other productive endeavors. It is not easy to bring a production line back to life again and very expensive to do so.

Don't really care which group has Mosul. If the Iraqi Army can't do it on their own, we shouldn't be over there helping them. Remember, Iraq asked us to leave.
