If we’re talking about the Pokemon Company in Japan, and Pocketpair being a Japanese developer, if the Pokemon Company finds reason to pursue a copyright violation lawsuit, it’s good to note that the only way Pocketpair is getting away with it is if they can prove there were no violations at all, not even reference,

Oh, I’m well aware. I’ve done this song and dance with him before. I just find it entertaining watching his arguments gradually devolve into complete nonsense.

Dude, really, I admire your patience. But every argument pessimism made is obviously made in bad faith an indicates that they’re either trolling or like spreading toxicity, since the only thing they do is twisting everything to the point of illogicality while disregarding facts and commonly accepted notions. I don’t

Fair, though in the context of this debate (over whether or not anyone was interested in Hogwarts Legacy in 2023), that table shows that yes, a lot of people were interested in it. The question isn’t how quickly the game sold but how many copies it sold in 2023. The table suggests that it sold many copies. WB’s

Not sure how pointing out that “fan” requires more than just a mild interest in something qualifies as gatekeeping. For example, when I see a trailer for a new game, movie or show, I might have a mild interest in playing/watching the full product at some point. Does that make me a fan of said product? Nope. It just

Right. It does seem likely that it sold that much over the holidays but again, that’s just assumption.

Can you provide a link? I can’t find any of those numbers in the Twitter post.

What specific data makes you think that TotK outsold Hogwarts? Hogwarts is multiplatform, uses a much more popular IP and has been out longer. This article also straight up says that Hogwarts outsold TotK in the U.S.

Yes, that’s why it’s the best-selling game of 2023, has over 5000 positive user reviews on Steam written in the past 30 days and had a significant increase in average player count within the last 30 days. Yup, definitely suggests that it’s a mediocre game that nobody cares about.

I had a lengthy debate with various commenters about the reasons for Hogwarts not being nominated for any TGA awards despite its critical and commercial success. I argued that it was primarily because the TGA wanted to avoid any potential controversy. They claimed that it was because Hogwarts was a mediocre game that

Let's be honest: the anti-Rowling crowd is composed of ignorant morons looking for a reason to feed their anger addiction.

Even coming into this article I knew Kotaku wasn’t going to be too thrilled about this news. Hogwarts Legacy got overshadowed by TotK, BG3, Spider-Man 2 and Starfield in the news. But it was still critically acclaimed by critics and sold like candy.

It was a damn good game and had one of the most amazing player “housing” systems (via the Room of Requirement) in any modern game- it’s kinda sad that it was in a single player game.

Released in February 2023, Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t a hit with critics and ended up not winning many major awards.

I really liked it, it was fun and very pretty, and it was clearly made with love for the source material and franchise. As someone that grew up with the books, and then the movies as they came out, it was a fun open-world romp for about 40-50 hours, I got my money’s worth.

It may not have been VERY good, but it was PRETTY good, controversy aside.

as much as I love physical media...yeah the writing was on the wall. games will be next on the chopping block. when the court documents leaked about the next series X having no disc drive the justification was that more than 70% of the games bought for xbox in 2022 were digital purchases. the market for physical is in

I think you’re looking at a bundle, not the console by itself.

While I agree that award shows should let people talk, I also (mostly) agree with the “don’t get political” rules. There are times and places for those speeches and discussions, but this ain’t it.

at the same time - missing your goals by 45% is pretty insane.
