Your understanding of how Dota works is basically completely incorrect, especially in regards to economy. Losing gold when you die is how Dota PREVENTS snowballing, since deaths on the winning team are more punishing. And no, nobody is denying you 20 minutes into the game. Denying is a factor early game and is…
I feel like the lede has been buried quite deep here, Samer. Curt Schilling was behind Amalur?!
I was actually all set and finished when you butted your way into this conversation. ;)
This is an animation. The moment you click, the game responds and processes your request. There is no lag or delay.
In one post I’m offering my perspective, and in another I’m trying to explain a decision-making principle to you.
There isn’t any input lag, as has already been pointed out.
No, I’m not suggesting that I know better. When I mention the sunk cost fallacy I’m reminding the other person that they shouldn’t be afraid to use something new because they’ve already invested time and money into a competing product.
That’s fine and understandable, but I don’t get why you’re lashing out at me. Someone said they were interested and thought it looked cool but were feeling hesitant so I offered my two cents.
This is an important aspect of how the game is balanced. Take Drow Ranger for example- if she had no turn animation and no attack animation, you could be endlessly kited and killed very easily. The alternative is to do it how League of Legends does it, and simply make the slow and damage much much weaker.
I’m not suggesting that there are no valid reasons to play League of Legends, but sunk cost is a reason I hear a lot and it’s a very bad one. This is why I replied... if someone says that they *want* to play Dota because it’s shinier and newer and more interesting but are afraid of switching because they don’t want to…
Why do you say that? How do you think anybody came to play Dota at all, especially before it was a commercial product? Word-of-mouth is what Dota was built on.
Who is “they”? There isn’t some sort of illuminati pulling the strings here, just folks who decided to be adventurous and try something new. They found something new and exciting and want to pass on the recommendation.
I’m not saying to try Dota once and you’ll be hooked- that’s not how it works. What I’m saying is to give it a chance: put down LoL for a week or two and let yourself become immersed in Dota. Play Dota as you would LoL and you’ll come out of it a lot happier. Don’t let the sunk cost fallacy dissuade you from moving on…
Of Reborn? Overall there’s not necessarily a ton of substance to it since it’s supposed to be a faithful update to Source 2- the biggest change I’ve seen so far is that pathing can be slightly different in certain scenarios, but I’m not necessarily sure if that’s intentional or not.
Not trying to convince you- but I had the same mindset a few years back and eventually decided that Riot really didn’t deserve any more of my time.
Reborn has softened a lot of the colors. Still colorful, but not HoTS or LoL bad at any rate.
6.85 is coming out today or tomorrow, so get ready to forget everything you’ve learned thus far. ;)
Does this mean you’re getting into Dota? :)
That’s not quite how it works! The frequency of the AC power from your outlet doesn’t have anything to do with the frequency of your monitor’s refresh rate.
