It’s not a regular mirror -- you need a special mirror box that is used in research regarding the brain and perceptions especially with regard to amputees and people recovering from strokes.

It’s related to studies trying to address phantom pain in amputees. In the past 15 years there’s been a big increase in the need for understanding the way the brain works when presented with these types of mirror illusions and how this might help amputees.
