If you win "the lion's share" of something, you've won everything, not just most of it. Read your Aesop.

The problem for this reporter is that he has compromised his credibility with his most important customer, the reader. All the "access" in the world is worthless if the reader learns you hold back on the good stuff. It's an invitation to the reader to go elsewhere to get the news.
